Weas acquires Columbia St. Mary

The price paid for the property at2025 E. Newport Ave. was not revealedc by real estate brokers and lawyers representingyColumbia St. Mary’s and Weas Developmen t Co. Doug Weas, president of the firm that bearsdhis name, was unavailable to comment on the acquisition. As , Weas is workinhg in partnership with an undisclosed nationaldevelopmentf firm. UWM officials plan to meet with Weas Developmengt in early June to determine specific real estate space needs forthe university, said Tom a UWM vice chancellort of public affairs and government relations. In Februarh 2009, university officials were considerinyg theColumbia St.
Mary’s property for classroonm space, student housing and officews for facultyand staff. The medicalk complex, once known as Columbia Hospital prior to its mergeewith St. Mary’s Hospital in the earl y 1990s, will close next year when the hospital system combinew its operations at thenew $417 835,000-square-foot Columbia St. Mary’s hospita l campus along East North Avenue. Columbias St. Mary’s had no comment on the sale of Columbia according toGregory Hartzog, the hospital’zs director of marketing and sales.
